Thanks for your awesome feedback Victoria. To answer your question about the manure, the farms use it elsewhere on their properties to improve the soil.
ecoeggs
I have been a buyer of Ecoeggs for some time now as I see the product as the most humane and sensitive product on the market. Not to mention of course that the eggs are the most flavoursome!
When I was a child as part of a school excursion we visited a battery cage hen farm, where I saw hundreds of chickens crammed into tiny cages. This memory has stayed with me for many years and since that day I have refused to eat caged eggs (the excursion was over 30 years ago!).
At the end of the day each consumer needs to understand that we are eating the produce of these hens so that alone is not technically humane (ie. we are essentially eating potential chickens of the future) however treating the hens with kindness and respect, within the limitations of the commercial need for egg consumption means that these chooks can enjoy a fulfilling chicken life including a safe place to rest, socialisation and ability to roam and do what chickens do whilst providing the produce that we humans enjoy consuming.
As soon as I saw there was a chicken webcam I logged on and I was so happy with what I viewed!
So first of all, thanks for the way you treat your chickens - I hope you are able to secure a happy life-after-egg-laying for your chooks or at minimum a humane end to their life. I would rather that than know that potentially they will end up in a battery farm!
Secondly, I want to know what you do with all the chook poo! Do you sell it?
