Behind the scenes

Ecoeggs is similar in some ways to the the operation of any business. Providing the birds with quality feed and drinking water, the collection of eggs and the provision of shelter and pasture access are not the only day to day duties being carried out. But behind the scenes there are many other management decisions being made to maintain both our hens' welfare and the high quality of our eggs.

On each of our farms the staff have many responsibilities, including maintaining detailed production records which allows management changes to be made based on flock's health, age and performance. The main targets include the number of eggs produced by the flock, the quantity of supplementary feed eaten to produce a dozen eggs, the ratio of eggs not meeting our high quality standards, changes in the flocks’ average body weight and more.

If these and other targets are not met management will recommend changes for the farm staff to implement which may include supplying extra supplementary feed if egg production and body weight decreases. If egg quality deteriorates adjustments may be made to egg collection and packing equipment, feed or water depending on the possible cause.

These are just a few areas involved in the production of your Ecoeggs. Thanks to all our dedicated farmers and their hard working staff.
